Yesterday afternoon, my dad came and picked me up going to the Honda dealership to look for an 06 Civic Si. After we enter the door is when the adventure begins.
We arrive at the dealership, walk in, I immediately see a Civic coupe but couldn't tell what it was from the door. The lady asks us if we needed someone, we told her we were just looking around for now. So I walk up to the Civic that I saw and it's not an Si, it was a royal blue pearl color. I looked inside from the driver's side window, automatic. Basically at this point I thought, it doesn't matter since there should be a line of Civic Si's somewhere on the lot, since this Honda dealership is probably 2-3x bigger than any other dealer in Minnesota. So we walk around looking at some other cars that were in the showroom for a little bit before we walked up to a salesman. We introduce ourselves, our guide today was named Paul, very nice person, I'm guessing from the looks of it in his late 30's or 40's but he was new to the dealership, and of course, he told us that as well.
Paul asks us what exactly are we looking for, I of course already knew what I wanted, a Galaxy Gray Metallic Civic Si. So I ask where the Civic Si's are in this lot, he immediately shows an apologetic look and tells me: "I'm sorry, we actually don't have any Si models in the lot." I was completely blown away, I could feel something at the bottom of my stomach, it felt horrible. So then I reminded myself that I could just easily order one, it's not that complicated. I ask him about it, he tells me that basically, there are about 3 cars in Japan right now, being produced and should be finished by the end of June. I began to not worry as much, until he told me the estimated shipping time of those 3 cars that were colors I did not know of. 8-12 weeks is when they're expected, so he told me that he could take my name down along with 20 or so other people already waiting for a Civic Si to come in, and it will probably not be until September. Completely shocked again, I thought this was completely insane, I can't even buy the car I want unless I want to wait 3-4 months. He tells me that the Si is very rare and I will be very lucky if I can get there when they call us and put down a deposit on some Si that arrives and hopefully buy the car. I got a little angry, I really wanted this 06 Civic Si, but Japan doesn't produce enough in a year for me to mathematically get one unless I was lucky somehow.
After putzing around for about 20 minutes and just angry about how I probably won't be getting an Si any time soon, I decide to look at the Accord V6 MT's. Paul brings out the list of Accords on their lot, which is about 3 pages or so long, and finds one V6 MT. So I wanted to test drive it, and possibly even buy it if I liked it. We go out back looking for the number on the car, which is ridiculous because they have about 100 cars sitting back there with at least 70% of them being Accords and either a dark color or black (which is the color that is the V6 MT on the list). We look at the numbers and walk by each car looking for this Accord for about another 20 minutes, couldn't find it. He calls into the office and it turns out that the Accord is in a side lot near the back which we already walked by, so we start heading towards there.
Here is where something magical happens, as I was walking behind Paul and my dad, I see at the corner of my eye, a red thing that says Si. I couldn't believe my eyes, I walk closer and unbelievably ITS A CIVIC SI. Guess what color it was? That's right, Galaxy Gray Metallic. CAN I BE ANY MORE FUCKING LUCKY? Ridiculous right? But I had to find my bearings as I was flipping out, I called out to Paul and my dad and asked what this car was that I was looking at. Paul walks up, says that he can't believe that this is here, since there is no Civic Si said to be on their lot at all. As he's dialing to call into the office for the sales manager he tells me that he's hoping it's available and that no one already has some special deal on it since they don't allow presales of cars. I was hoping for the best, and from hearing him talk to the manager on the phone I basically got that the car was AVAILABLE. He gets off the phone, very excited and tells me that yes, it is available and very insane that I was able to just walk into an Si, find it, and have a chance at buying it before the dealership calls all of the people on the list for the Si.
This was extremely huge luck on my part to just be able to find an Si, so we go inside and for about an hour, my dad talks the dealership down a couple thousand and we basically sign all the papers for the car, put a deposit, and Paul goes and puts a SOLD sign on the car. It was still in the parking lot, had all this protective white stripping on it still, looking inside you could see everything still plastic wrapped, shifter, seats, everything. This car either arrived late last night, or this morning meaning I was somehow lucky enough to be the first person looking for an Si and found one sitting in the back of their lot, just shipped and not yet even processed so it's not in their computer database yet. I was so happy when this all happened and couldn't really believe what was happening, this car is so rare and I got the exact color I wanted as well.
After all of the legal stuff and signing, we left, my dad told me that this was unbelievable. He told me that in China, they would basically say, this car was MADE for me, and only me, it was waiting for me to find it out of sheer luck. I beat the rush, I bought the car, and now I'm extremely happy. Test driving it on Monday or Tuesday before I pick it up and officially own the car on Wednesday morning.
Hope you all had a fun time reading my Honda adventure, this was one hell of a trip to the dealership.
